Hi all,
As it's a long & unusually sunny Bank Holiday weekend......
Have just used my fabulous new hedgetrimmer, reduced from £50 to £30 at Argos; Qualcast is one of the more robust & quality brands, if not the best; my QC mower has lasted years as opposed to Flymo & Black & Decker. My previous Bosch cordless hedgetrimer was also next to useless.
Happy hedging!

I believe that in recent years Homebase and Argos have been selling their own-brand products under the "Qualcast" brand name. Not sure if they still own the rights today but I wouldn't automatically assume that buying a Qualcast branded product will get you a product actually made by Qualcast and to the high standards they've built their reputation on.
Still....I guess the only way to know how good a product actually is is by using it for yourself and you sound pleased with your new hedge trimmer so that's the main thing!
(By the way, thanks for posting. Just wanted to add the friendly note of caution, something to be aware of, in case it's of interest to anyone.)0 -
Hi,
Thanks for the post & making me aware of your findings.
I'm very happy with it; I'd be very surprised if it isn't the real thing; I guess that would be against Trading Standards & somewhat illegal esp. for huge names such as Argos & Homebase to put their reputations against such dishonesty.

If they have legally acquired the rights to use the name on their own products then no it wouldn't be illegal. Qualcast still continued to sell their own products in Argos & Homebase, so I'm not saying that all Qualcast labelled products sold there were not actually Qualcast's own products and yours may well be the real thing....but I know I'd feel a bit duped if I bought something based on the brand's reputation, only to discover that it wasn't actually made by/for the owner of that brand or to their exacting standards.
Anyway, as I said earlier, I don't even know for sure if Argos/HB are still using the Qualcast name on their own products but I know that they definitely were, in recent seasons, so I thought that was info worth sharing. I wasn't trying to be rude or dissmissive at all - sorry if I came across that way0 -
Thanks Aristocrat, I've just bought one and attacked my very overgrown hedge with it, it's managed to get through some pretty tough stems and I am more than happy with it.

Hi Corelli,
I'm really pleased to hear that, I'd be gutted if you went out & bought it & it was rubbish!
The reviews against the product on the Argos website are also looking pretty good. I've only just looked at that now as I'd already based my decision on my QC lawnmower & strangely enough another purchaser on the reviews said the same thing about their mower.

I bought a Qualcast hedge trimmer from Argos last year. It burnt out after a couple of uses. So did the replacement. Never again.
Qualcast used to be high quality, how things change.0 -

Oh dear.
And usually such a friendly forum:D
Seems you had a bad experience with the product, which doesn’t necessarily speak for the whole brand judging by the positive reviews on various sites. This is also why the product comes with it’s free warranty, in fact 2 years are stated in the handbook so customers are well covered.

Just got mine today pick up from local Argos. Thanks OP
I have tried it to cut different hedges very happy with it.
I have the old on battery operated, but this Hedge trimmer is superb as it is long enough and therefore effective to attack various bushes and hedges.
Also I do not think you could find it cheaper than this ....0
