Wireless working fine one day, then not.

  • wireless is a world of hassle, if you need to connect PCs around ya house to a network, try looking up Homeplug, check out https://www.solwise.com.

I ditched wireless a while back and have not regretted it for a second! Homeplug however does limit you to keeping your PC near a power socket - perhaps a prob if you take the laptop to the garden...

The other topical advantage is that Homeplug is less likely to give you cancer, but hey I guess the jury is still out on that one ;)!

Well it can't, you can't prove non existence of something, only say there's no evidence of it so far.

If the wired PC also drops the connection, then it's unlikely to be a wireless issue.. Are there filters on all the phones? Next time it drops, goto http://192.168.0.1 (see if this works on wireless, if it does, then it is not a wireless issue) click connection status, it should come up with a screen like this, which will tell you if you are connected to the internet or not.

    Connection Time HH:MM:SS
    Connecting to Server Connected
    Negotiation Success
    Authentication Success
    Getting IP Addresses x.x.x.x
    Getting Network Mask 255.255.255.255

If wired works, and wireless doesn't, download netstumbler (or use the scanner that came with the card) to find out what other channels are in use in the area. The channels overlap upto 5 channels away, so channel 1 will interfere a bit with 2,3,4,5 but shouldn't with 6. Ditto 6 will interfere with 7,8,9,10, but 11 should be ok. If there are too many routers around, then pick a number in the middle of the range.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

    EXACTLY! YES!

Sorry, i get excited when people say sensible things haha. A lot of people try saying "Prove its not harmless" but you cant/dont prove negatives! Instead, PROVE it is harmful?

And until there is conclusive evidence to show our children will die due to Wi-Fi, then I'll carry on using it!
