Help Daughters Ebay account has been stolen.

My daughter has just had an email from Ebay saying that there has been suspicious activity on her account so they have reset her password and secret questions and told her to go answer them.

She's done that but its not accepting either of the answers (they are definitely correct) Theres no links in the email and she can't log into her account at all because it's all been reset.

What does she need to do to get her account back.

Hover over the link in the email and tell us what the web address that it links to is.

there isn't a single link in the email.

She went directly to ebay.co.uk and when she tried to log on it said her password was incorrect, so she went to forgotten password, answered the secret answers they said they were wrong (the weren't) but this would make sense if ebay have indeed reset her password and secret answers as they said they had in the email.

So how on earth does she get her account back.

theres no email address just a phone option, but surely if they have reset all her passwords and secret answers she won't even get through security to speak to someone about her account.

I think she's going to have to, I just hope they will speak to her as all the security has been reset.

Your daughter needs to contact ebay via telephone she will be able to prove who she is and take steps to change password and take control of her hacked account. No one can ring on her behalf due to the privacy laws and so she needs to get on asap and check her paypal hasnt also been hijacked.

It has happened to me before and I spoke to an American gent at ebays phone number, and he talked me through everything and when my Visa bill came in with the ads for the cars and home page special car he told me that these would be erased and it took a coupel of calls to resolve everything.

Your daughter needs to act right away i.e. now , click on the link in the CALL US tab and a PIN number unique to your daughter and the number appears , the number is only valid for 15 minutes, ebays number is 0800 358 3229, which is a free phone number.

Intercepted accounts happen when a fake or phishing email arrives and asks for user email passwords and other things that claims to be from ebay , but asks for info that ebay NEVER ask for. Hovering on the link reveals it didnt come from ebay and is generally the mode the thieves use or a spam type email to your inbox.

shes got it sorted now, but she has NO idea how anyone got her password. She's very security conscious, never clicks on links in emails she always goes directly to the site if she needs to.

She's now got access back to her account and can't find anything on it that looks like suspicious activity.

Well done am glad she has resolved it , things can usually be sorted in a 5 min call. Sometimes you just never know who has accessed your account or even just guessed a password and am sure there are random keystroke programmes or something, for the main task of acquiring and hijacking ebay accounts. Ebay prob have tried their best to get rid of these attacks but they still happen.

Many people have relatively insecure passwords. Anything harder to guess tends to be impossible to remember so it is tempting to use the name of your cat or variations on a password for different sites. I suspect that for people you know quite well you could often guess what passwords they use.

Glad your daughter has sorted it out.
