Visa for Turkey

Options
I understand Turkey singles out UK travellers only to pay a £10 (in cash) fee for a visa at the point of entry for historical reasons. The only exception being for those who are not staying overnight in the country but departing immediately by cruise liner (say, from Marmaris).

How does one ensure you are not needlessly stung for £10 when arriving at immigration? Anyone BTDT?

Turkey doesn't single out only UK passport holders to pay for a visa on entry into the country - lots of other country's citizens also have to pay for a visa on entry -

I can't help with the arrival at a Turkish airport to then board a cruise the same day, hopefully someone who has done it can advise you on that.

Just make sure you follow the Cruise Liners advise. You will not be cheated or stung, you get the Visa from their equivalent of the passport agency at the transit point - it will be clearly marked VISA, you then take your passport with VISA to passport control.

Almost every nationality entering Turkey pays their visa.

Now if you want to talk about rip off Visa fees, how about £132 to enter the UK.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Be thankful it's only £10! I'm Canadian and have to pay $60 US or 45 Euros for a 90 day visa.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

    Why?
There's often a lot more to issuing a visa for entry into the UK than simply putting a stamp into a passport!
Unfortunately, the guilty significantly put up the prices for the innocent.
If that helps keep the guilty out of the country, then it's a small price to pay.
And anyway, there's often a lot of reciprocity involved. For example why should a UK package tourist going to a place like Goa get stung for what they have to pay for a Visa?

I don't mind paying a tenner to get into Turkey because it's a wonderful country, with a first class transport infrastructure.

I am going to Turkey next week and I tried the online visa.

The charge is $20.00 per person - The £10.00 each is a bargain!
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.

    Cruise ships

At Dalaman there are some passport booths that are marked Cruise Ships, never seen them occupied so cannot comment as to their use

We applied for on-line visas as we will have two or three trips to Turkey this year and have heard stories of people having trouble with the traditional £10 visa having multiple entries to Turkey and arguments over the expiry date, as they only state the date issued. The on-line visas have the start date and the expiry date clearly marked, so no argument.

Was dismayed to find Halifax charged an admin fee as they classed it as a foreign transaction as the payment is to a Turkish bank.

Can remember the days when at Dalaman it was a couple of very surly men sat at a table who issued the entry visa / stamp.
