We had an outstanding bill with sky and we were leaving them. We had free sky for a few months.

Phoned to pay the bill but was told we can't! Something to do with the computer. As Sky bill a month in advance they could not credit the account as we were leaving. So sugested we payed the full amount and they credited it our next account.

A week later we get a leaflet thing to say out bill will be wrote off as long as we sign up by such a date.

Phoned sky a few times to pay this bill and keep getting told we cant and they seem keen to keep us.

Anybody else have the same problems? Does anybody happen to know the address of Sky to send a cheque.

Thank you. Fingers crossed they accept the cheque and close the account!

Sky have stopped taking cheques since... January 2012 maybe? Can't remember off the top of my head. You will receive a letter back saying your cheque has been destroyed.

You can go on IVR or online to make payment?

The bill online in not accurate as they charge a month in advance. So when you phone we get told sorry but you need to pay the full amount and we will credit your account. We simply want to pay and leave.

The other day we got a leaflet throw the door to say they will write off the outstanding amount if we sign up.

This would open a very interesting debate. Cheques are still recognised as a valid method of payment. To refuse (and only take plastic) disenfranchises many. That said, Sky went out of their way to prevent me from doing a BACS transfer, changing their account and refusing to tell me what it was.

(I found it by being equally devious! :) )
