Basic Will

I have the start of emphysema and know i'm not going to last for more than a few years if im lucky as i lost my father to the same disease so its really time i create a will. I don't have any children or family so i want to leave everything to my partner. I've found a couple of websites such as tenminutewill.co.uk and getmywill.co.uk but these websites are considerably cheaper than a solicitor so im a bit concerned about how legit these services are.
As my entire estate would go to my partner is it safe to use these websites and will the will provided by them be upheld in the event of my death?

Provided you follow to the letter the instructions about signing and witnessing then those wills should be perfectly OK

Do not let them sell you add-ons like storing the will and being executor

Think about an alternative beneficiary - a charity if need be - should your partner predecease you. Accidents happen. If you don't and you have no other relatives that nice Mr Osborne will get it all.

Unless you live in Cornwall when it would be Prince Charles

Read the Which? books on wills before having them round so that you are clued up on the details and will know when they start trying to add on things you don't need.

If you married your partner that would make things simpler for him/her when the time comes...

If your estate is worth over £325,000, your partner will have to pay inheritance tax - a spouse or civil partner wouldn't.

Unless you make sound arrangements for your partner to be recognised as your next-of-kin for health matters, he/she may not have any say over your treatment - https://www.advicenow.org.uk/living-together/next-of-kin/

We are a same sex couple and although we plan on having a civil ceremony its not something we have set a date for although when my health becomes really bad we could get a civil ceremony rushed through i guess.

Whether you do the civil ceremony or go down the paperwork route (wills, nok), don't leave it too long because your partner won't get anything at the moment.

You can see who would inherit if you died intestate - https://www.tollers.co.uk/system/docs/178/original/Rules%20of%20Intestacy%20Flowchart.pdf

It would also be worth looking at getting Power of Attorney sorted out.
