Ebay bidder

I sell on Ebay, just bits & bobs usually only just a few pounds in value. For a long time now I only post to UK & this is stated near the top of the listing AND I also type UK Buyers only. I have now had someone buy from me who lives in Canada. I explained I only dispatch to UK and she has become quite abusive, today alone I have received in excess of 8 messages from her. The item is still in an open state as she requested the postage amount. I can offer the item as a second chance offer to an under bidder but how can I cancel her bid now the auction has ended? I also have received a message from her offering me a larger amount of money if I still sell it to her. I have had several items in the past that were sent Overseas not reaching their destination & combined with the PayPal fees that include postage charges this is why I decided on UK buyers only.

Although you stated in your listing that you only posted within the UK, did you change the preferences to state this when you listed the item.

If you excluded other destinations in your account settings the other bidder couldn't have bid on your item. Only defining UK postage on an item won't stop an overseas bidder bidding on your item.

It's stupid, but that's how it's set up.

It won't help this time, but you need to chose Account _ Site Preferences _ Buyer Requirements and select/tick "block buyers who: Have a primary delivery address in a location I don't post to ". That will ensure that only UK buyers can bid on the item.

For this one, I would just send them an invoice with the correct amount of postage - if they then choose not to pay, then too bad, they should've asked the price before bidding. But if you just don't sell to them, then you may get a "strike" against your account and neg feedback / trashed stars.

Find the price for an insured courier parcel to Canada, then invoice them accordingly, it would be difficult for you to lose out then.

If you did then the Canadian buyer could not have bid.

Not necessarily. I have very tight preferences including blocking Italy, and yet an Italian buyer bid on one of my items. I have also had other countries manage to get through my preferences.

It should be remembered that currently e-Bay are making constant changes, and fixing problems that don't exist, so glitches can,and do, happen.
  • exactly OLDONE. I had my preferences set & still this lady bid. thanks for all your replies.

Could be that they registered on .co.uk instead of thier own country.

I was just about to post with the same query. My eBay prefs are set to block overseas buyers, and a bidder from Malta has won my item. When I checked her address it is in Malta but the last line of the address says default, and then a number 8, followed by a UK post code and mobile tel number. Has anyone else had this happen? I assume this is how she has been able to place her bid!!

I'm going to send a message tomorrow asking for a full UK address, and see what the response is.
