Grass - growing at weird angles?!
I seem to have grass growing at funny angles.. i.e. I have clumps that grow outwards instead of upwards. This grass seems to be really thick too.
Is there a way of encouraging it all to grow upwards? Maybe cutting it very low.. Or is it a case of removing it totally and starting again?

Its probably the way that grass grows normally. There's not much you can do about that, apart from to replace it.0

Me too, Matt.
I had some bare patches in my lawn and sprinkled some cheap grass seed from Tescos around the place, in February, March and April. It looks weird - light bluey green with strong shoots that look like sweetcorn seedlings, and it grows 'out' not 'up'. Not sure if I like it, but it's better than moss and bare ground. It seems to have come up with a vengeance since the downpours we've been having.
I raked it, over the weekend. I trimmed the very long straggley bit with a hedge clipper. I also used my hands and (the neighbours must definitely think I'm as daft as a brush) a scissors around the edges. Then I mowed it very, very low to the ground. I'll mow these patches again later in the week.
I think the trick is to mow it often, so that it doesn't get straggley and move outwards. Once a week or twice a week, as long as it's not a very dry spell.

The "problem" is because it goes outwards the mower doesn't get it so it just keeps getting longer!! I have a lawn trimmer and am thinking about butchering it with that until it starts growing up.
if it doesn't then I'll rip it up. I am trying to sort the entire lawn so if I have bare patches for a while then so be it.Lady Astor: "Winston, if I were your wife I'd put poison in your coffee."

Its the variety of grass so unless you dig it up there is nothing you can do to stop it.0
