First Alternative Insurance Issue

Ok then in August last year a car driver opened his door at a filling station and damaged my vehicle. Last Friday I get a letter from FA saying they don't want to insure me anymore and being helpful they provided me with a competitive quote of £950.00, I was paying £420. The other party has 9 months after the accident decided to not accept liability. I contacted FA and said that although this was the first year I have had insurance in my own name I had been a named driver for over 20 years. I have a perfect driving record, no points not even a parking ticket. The effect of the other party disputing the liability at this late stage means that in June I have to get insured and declare a disputed liability incident. FA have said that this incident is the only possible reason why they don't want to insure me next time.
I find the situation absolutely discraceful. I called FA again and again asking about repayment of my excess (£300), They claimed no response from Norwich Union or the other party until now. The matter was passed by FA to their solicitors who are taking legal action this week.
What I need help on is given my cimcumstances and a previous clean record what is my best insurance option and do I have any legal claim against either FA, Norwich Union or the other party against this unnecessary delay in disputing the incident?.
