I took out a policy with direct line recently because they give named drivers ncd the policy was in my name with my 17 year old son as named driver. I am also a named driver on a trade policy. I was told by a girl at the company that the proof from my tade insurance would be sufficient for me to get the discount offered i got all the information together from my trade policy to say i have been claims free since 2003 and that i bought 65% ncd to the policy from previous insurance. This was all sent to the insurance company i then recieved a letter to say it wasnt sufficient and that they made a mistake and the insurance was going to be cancelled or the policy would have to go up by 2350. I tried phoning on a number of accasions to be told by another gent that it was not right that they cancel the policy as it would go against me in the future and that he would reinstate it but for me to cancel due to the much higher premiums 146 to 453 per month I know some parents front insurance for their children but my son is an accasional driver as he works away most weeks with his job please if any body can give any advise here it would be appreciated0

If you can't get it sorted with Direct Line, cancel first, and try to sort out the cost afterwards.
That way at least you won't show as having insurance cancelled.0 -
This thread is ancient!
Robert Wills - you usually get more helpful responses if you start a new thread. If you add to an old one, it can sometimes get confusing. People get mixed up between the OP (original poster) and the new poster, and we end up having two conversations in one thread.0 -
Is it legal for insurance companies to charge you for cancelling a car insurance policy when they will not quote you for a change of vehicle and additional driver???0
-
Yes . (You are the one wanting them to change the contract and change their risk to somethings they don't want to.)0

My first time on here.
I purchased a one call Insurance 3 year guaranteed price fix policy for my car.
The renewal came and i thought nothing of it, the price was the same (1p) different.
I got a call at 730pm at night telling me that my excess was high £600 and did I want to pay £6/month to reduce it, I thought it strange as i thought would never have agreed to an excess this high. I paid up and was so niggled so checked my 2012/2013 policy and it was £350.
I called back spoke to a Manager and he told me that one insurance had incrased the excess and this was not covered on my guaranteed policy renewal!! I told him I thought I was being conned and he said he would see what he could do the next day.
Surprise surprise he called on Thursday morning and the policy was put back down to its original costing. I was still not happy as I felt other customers were going to suffer. I asked for documentation that the excesses were increased by one insurance and Dan (sales manager) informed me he had an e-mail in front of him which said from 08/02/2012 one insurance demanded a minumum compulsory excess of £400 for cars valued over 25K. My policy was taken out in July 2012 so this was in itself a lie. I asked for a copy of this document and was told that it was a private document and was not possible. There is something going on here and the up-selling of fixed policies seems unlawful. Please help as I have sorted my policy out but others will be paying more for no reason.0 -
