ADVICE PLEASE - Need a cheap/low cost share dealing account ?

Hi all

Been using Selftrade dealing account for years and have a portfolio holding GCM, SHG, MWA, BARC.

Currently holding all BUT sick of being charged for inactivity fee of £10.50 every quarter PLUS admin fee of around £50 year.

It is also £12.50 per trade.

Can someone recommend a cheaper alternative ?

I have not bought/sold for years so paying fee's is not ideal.

Thanks

    Iweb ?

    £25 one off setup fee

no other admin charges whatsoever after initial set up fee

then £5 per trade, £2 for any scheduled regular stock purchases.

Beware international trading though, any foreign currency conversion is charged a 1.5% commission.

alternatively, you can avoid the inactivity fee by making at least 1 "regular" monthly investment in each quarter, for which the dealing commission is £1.50, and (i think) the minimum investment is £50. you can turn "regular" investments on and off every month if you want.

to get 1 investment in each quarter, you could (e.g.) turn it on for june and july, then off, then on again for december and january, then off, and so on.

you could use these regular investments to make small top-ups to existing holdings.

Hi fj, on the following TD rates for the "No fee" - does it just require just one of the options to be satisfied?

    Cheers

    Alan

"Trading Account £12.50 + VAT per quarter

    or
    £0 No fee when you:
place 1 or more trades per quarter
have an individual portfolio valuation of £15,000 or more
have a Funds (Unit Trusts/OEICs) valuation of £10,000 or more
have a Trading ISA or TD SIPP linked to your Trading account
    "

    yes basically:
    £0 No fee when you:
    * place 1 or more trades per quarter
    * have an individual portfolio valuation of £15,000 or more
    * have a Funds (Unit Trusts/OEICs) valuation of £10,000 or more
    * have a Trading ISA or TD SIPP linked to your Trading account
If you insert 'or' at the beginning of each line, you're right. Meeting any one of those criteria stops you getting charged.

If you were using an ISA only, then there are no quarterly fees but there's an annual one (which you can avoid by either having regular investing turned on, or having a high portfolio valuation when they come to bill you at the end of each May; the 'high portfolio valuation' is lower than the 15k on a non-ISA account, its somewhere just over 5k)
