End of Tenancy and Council Tax

I moved in where I live now on the 1st of the month. If I were to leave on the 6th of a month instead of the 31st of the month before will I get some sort of council tax refund or do I still have to pay for the remainder of the month despite not living there?

I'm moving and since my new rental property won't be ready in time for the day I move out I'm considering making my landlord an offer to stay another week.

    You pay pro rata (daily).

If you've paid in advance, you claim a refund.

Yes- and the daily rate MUST be derived from the yearly rate (not from a weekly/monthly figure): Apportionment Act 1870.

just make sure you inform the council tax people the day you move out and your new address.
If you do not tell them they will charge you for 2 properties!!
    Same with your TV licence
Redirect the mail for at least a year and read the meters
