Hello all,
Nearing end of my first trip back to NZ in twenty years and have bought 'Hunger for the Wild', an NZTV series on DVD.
On the back are these details with some symbols(LEFT TO RIGHT, TOP TO BOTTOM):
LANGUAGE/Dolby Digital/160 mins approx/20(under a small box with the upper corners as emphasised 'fullstops')/1xDVD9/16.9/colour/dual layer/O(in a small box with rounded corners) & PAL underneath/This disc is compatible with all dvd players displaying these symbols.
The barcode is 941539470537.
The shop ladies were unsure if it will work in France/UK, or can be made to.
Any help gratefully received - kia ora

Hi
Some DVDs have a Region Code which tries to prevent them being used in other regions.
Some DVDs don't have a Region Code.
The Region Code for New Zealand is 4. The Region Code for Europe is 2.
If your DVD has Region Code 4 then to play it in Europe you will need to use a Multi-Region DVD player. If your DVD player is not Multi-Region then you may be able to enter a code to unlock it.

Hi there,
I believe the [0] symbol means "playable in all regions". I checked on Wikipedia (not always a source of reliable information but good enough) and it confirms it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code
UK and France being Region 2.
So I think it's safe to assume that you'll be able to play it easily in both (or any) countries. Should you have any probs, multi-regional dvd players are pretty cheap and most region-specific dvd players can be set to play all regions if you know your make and model. A Google search will tell you how.
Hope you had a good holiday and have a safe trip home.

If the symbol on the back looks like this
then your disc is region free and it should play anywhere without any hassles.0 -
