Nottingham Goldsmith Street Tram Gateway PCN

I was in Nottingham last weekend trying to find somewhere to park in the city centre. Not being from there, I let my phone's Google Maps satnav guide me, and it led me through Goldsmith Street. It appears Google is unaware that cars are apparently not allowed through there! Anyway, yesterday I received not one, but 2 PCNs. Looking at the supplied picture it seems one was taken when I was going up the road towards Shakespeare Street and the other was taken when I had turned round, trying to get out of the tramgate
I realise that I should have paid more attention to the blue sign, but I was trying to find somewhere to park so that I wouldn't be late for my appointment. Also, if safety is the issue, how comes there wasn't a no-entry sign anywhere (at least not that I could see)?
Has anyone had any luck appealing these PCNs? Unless you happen to look at Nottingham council's website before leaving, there is no clue that going into the tramgate would result in any penalty, i.e. there are no warning notices of this.
A quick web search reveals that Nottingham council fines thousands of people every month for straying into this area - a nice little earner for them! So if nothing else, I am posting this to try to spread the word so that others not from there may know in advance not to attempt to drive down Goldsmith Street under any circumstances.

It would appear that the Google Streetview vehicle made exactly the same mistake that you did and drove straight through that area.
In all honesty the signs are really very poor, and the 'tram only" lettering on the road isn't exactly in your face.
I would imagine Pepipoo would be the best place to look for help with this one.0 -
Hi
I ended up on Goldsmith St Tramway at the weekend whilst trying to navigate myself around the city centre using a sat nav. Got a PCN through today. I didn't notice any signs at the time and didn't realise I was on the tramway until it was too late. No longer being in Nottingham I am unable to go and check how obvious the signs are.
I was wondering if you have decided to appeal? I would really resent paying - I did not intentionally violate any rules, did not cause any danger/ obstruction, etc. However appealing will lead to the fine being doubled as the 'discounted rate' is sure to expire...

Always appeal a Council PCN and always get help to win it, from pepipoo:

No point just paying up, when pepipoo forum can help (please post a new topic with pictures of all pages of the PCN).
HTHPRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
