garage damaged locking wheel nut

A garage beginning with K has damaged my locking wheel nut on one wheel - I have since removed all the others without issue. What I'm pretty sure they did was use the air gun and it slipped off - it is rounded that way.

They have agreed to pay for the replacement key but not for the cost of removing the now stuck wheel nut.

Any ideas where my 'rights' stand? :)

Cheers ;)

They pay all the costs. They've damaged your property and should remedy it, not charging you. Get back on the phone to them and tell them to pull their head out of their ars*s and sort their own mess out.

Are you sure the nut was not faulty in some way, or had previously been over tightened?

I would have thought that if the nut had previously been damaged or overtightened then Kwikfit would have refused any refund.

Badgers, if you know of a good welder, he should be able to get the damaged wheel nut off for you provided that it isn't recessed into an alloy wheel.

I had this a while ago and I found someone who welded part of a old wheel nut onto the damaged locking nut and then simply used a wrench on the welded on bit.
If someone tries this, they have to be very careful and know what they are doing or they could end up ruining the wheel.

No, it was fine as I had previously swapped wheels around. I have also since removed all the other locking nuts myself without issue.

I think they ued an air gun and it slipped, so the key and nut are well rounded. The thing is they have had 2 esgo at getting it off and have scratched the wheel. They now say they are ordering a tool to get it off. They have also volunteered to pay for all this.

But I think they should throw in a tyre or something. This has been going on for 2 months now and I get the impression they are lying to me... the first time the puncture was done there was none of that white stuff on the tyre and it went down straight away. So I think it didn';t come off the first time and they wanted me to go away and hopefully to another tyre place

They also say it was not their repair that wasn't done right, but corrosion on the alloy. But when they first said they did the repair they said it was a screw. I just don't trust them.

Compensation for time and scratched wheel possible??

Compensation for them scratching the wheel should be them repairing or replacing the scratched part.
Anything else you can claim will need to be for provable quantifiable losses.

But how do you quantify going back to the same garage umpteen times only to be lied to, fobbed off and mislead... how do you put a figure on that? I did get a refurbed wheel out of them, but even that was a pain... having to take more time off to go to a special garage place, hang around, get bus home, pick up day after, in work late, bla blah blah... just avoid kwikfit, fools with tools
