Insuring Car whilst Selling

Due to buy another car tomorrow, existing car is insured until end Nov, but not being traded in - about to list on Ebay/Gumtree etc as it's value is no more than 600. I think the rules have changed and I have to keep the car insured, or am I able to keep it on my driveway until sold without insurance? It does have tax, and I'm not planning on taking it anywhere.
Phoned insurance company to see if they would be happy to cover both cars until I've sold existing car - NO GO. Did a quick search for temporary insurance, 14 days is 130 which sounds very painful based on the value of the car!
My OH hasn't got a car insured in his name at the mo as he has a company car so I'm wondering if it would be better for him to take out insurance on the car being sold - with a view to cancelling when the car is sole -surely the admin charges on less than one month's insurance would be less overall than the 130 for the temporary insurance (and that's assuming I can sell the car in that time)
Any advice?

If its not insured you can keep it off the road and declare SORN. I think your supposed to send the tax back though.
With the car only being worth £600 and having a company that wont cover both cars for a short period i would have part exchanged it.
£130 for 2 weeks is rather steep for a car you think is worth £600. If everyone else things its worth £300 and only offer that then you would have done better weighing it in for scrap.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
