my daughter bought a 2nd hand laptop a toshiba satellite pro.
it arrived today and I switched it on, its coming up saying media test failure, can someone help me please, I feel sick as its for my grandson whise birthday is on monday.please if someone can help I will be very thankful.

Possibly, your laptop is configured to incorrectly attempt to boot from a network card or removable device that is not present but for some reason the system thinks that it is.
Here's a guide about how to change the boot priority in the BIOS.

You'll want to boot from the Hard Drive so put that at the top (the guide is designed for those who want to boot from a optical drive from a boot disc, but the principle remains the same).0 -

am sorry I got list on this I got onto bios but its coming up cd/dvd, fdd or lan.

if the bios isnt indicating one, id assume its not present/isnt working/or not formatted. Was it sold as having a working hdd and an OS?0 -
Full model number? From where did you purchase it? How much? Does it have a warranty?
Give it back if you can and perhaps just tell the grandson what he will be getting.
No point in giving him a piece of junk that you may need to return anyway.
Of course you can purchase a HDD locally and install everything before Monday, but do you want to do that?0
