My partner has been trying to get in touch with their office all week, on the number 03000 524077 regarding a letter sent to her.
Despite numerous attempts, the number is always engaged - has anyone had any joy contacting them recently?
Many Thanks

I usually call them on 028 9053 8192 (from a mobile, though, else you don't get through)0

0345 300 3900 is the right number - it is charged at local rates from a landline and I never have trouble getting through on it.0

I wonder if anyone can help me?
Last Friday our tax credits were £100 short. We usually get about £250 per week as I am on a low wage (£150 child tax credit - £100 working tax credit)
When I got home from the bank I called the tax credit helpline on 0345 300 3900 to be told that our working tax credit was under review due to me not supplying information requested by letter in April.
I explained that the only letter I had from tax credits this year was for my renewal which I had until July to complete but was informed that the letter would be regarding a change in circumstances or suchlike.
I have no idea what this is about as I did not receive the letter and nor has my circumstances altered in any way.
I was given a number to call (03000 551328) as I was informed that the general enquiry number could not assist me in any way whatsoever as it was with the investigation department or some such department.
I called the number 34 times that day and only got an engaged tone every time. At 2pm our post came and I got the letter from tax credits saying our tax credits were being stopped that day. Could they not have sent it a bit earlier?
The number on the letter for me to call was the same as the one given to me by the tax credit general enquiry line. I rang it again, engaged!
I called back the tax credit general enquiry line to report this but was told they could not help me and to keep trying! I asked for a supervisor but apparently they were all busy!
I then got a video camera, my cordless home phone on speaker mode and zoomed in on the screen. For the next 86 minutes (without pausing) I pressed redial, got engaged tone, hang up, redial, engaged tone and so on. It did not ring once!
Still, an interesting experiment showing how hard it is to push 3 buttons in a strict order for 86 minutes!
I am really angry about this now £100 is half of our weekly family budget and at the end of Monday I have still spoken to no one to resolve it.
I had a thought that night about when I called BT once a long time ago about checking an engaged number for reasons I can't recall and they were able to tell me the phone was 'off the hook' and that there was no voice DATA on the line.
I called BT at 9:46 AM after confirming the 03000 number was still engaged and was informed that the information was limited but as far as they could diagnose there was no one speaking on the line and it was showing as 'unobtainable' and i quote, "like the phone was off the hook".
Armed with this new info I called back the tax credit general enquiry line and was told they would email the department on my behalf and have them contact me. Unfortunately though they were not allowed to give me the email address or any other means to contact the one person (Stephen Rawcliffe according to the letter) that I need to talk to!
I'm thinking I'm not going to hold my breath and probably just as well because 'Googling' this has revealed dozens of similar cases all ending in being fobbed off with, "We will email them for you" only to not hear anything again.
Now I'm generally not a suspicious person. Actually, yes I am but:
1.My working tax credit is stopped because I did not reply to a letter apparently sent 2 months ago.
2.Nothing has changed in my financial situation for over 12 months.
3. No reminder letter was sent in 2 months until the day the tax credit was stopped.
4. Tax credits get allocated lot's of new 03000 numbers suddenly that I have never come across before.
5. No one at tax credit general enquiry line can help me.
6. No supervisors at tax credit general enquiry line are keen to speak about this.
7. Tax credit general enquiry staff have a universal "we will email them for you" excuse and refuse to acknowledge this is a well known issue.
8. BT say no one is talking on the engaged line.
9. Strictly not being allowed any other way to contact including the email address held by the enquiry line.
10. The department I am trying to contact closes on the weekend and after 4PM weekdays according to the enquiry line yet if I call the 03000 number at 11PM IT IS STILL ENGAGED!
Now either tax credits have a really hard working, round the clock team trying to resolve all those claims in the UK that people make and don't update when for no reason HM Revenue and Customs decide their circumstances have changed or I am being played for an idiot!
It is Wednesday now and so it looks like I will lose another £100 this week and I am seriously worried as I am getting into debt. In fact Sky should have been paid last Friday and if it is not by this Friday I can look forward to telling my 3 kids there will be no T.V or broadband from Saturday onwards.
I'm sick of this country, I used to be proud to be British, not any more, not for a long time!

That is the main helpline no......the 03000 no. is a dedicated compliance line.0 -
sparkyuiop wrote: »1.My working tax credit is stopped because I did not reply to a letter apparently sent 2 months ago. Correct
2.Nothing has changed in my financial situation for over 12 months. If you say you get £100 pw in WTC then you must be working very low hrs and also receive disability element
3. No reminder letter was sent in 2 months until the day the tax credit was stopped. Reminders aren't sent out.
4. Tax credits get allocated lot's of new 03000 numbers suddenly that I have never come across before. So? Should they come to you first?
5. No one at tax credit general enquiry line can help me. It is a seperate department
6. No supervisors at tax credit general enquiry line are keen to speak about this. They supervise the helpline staff, not the compliance staff so would be unable to help
7. Tax credit general enquiry staff have a universal "we will email them for you" excuse and refuse to acknowledge this is a well known issue. They are following the instructions from senior managers
8. BT say no one is talking on the engaged line. Rubbish
9. Strictly not being allowed any other way to contact including the email address held by the enquiry line. Emails addresses are private and can't be given out
10. The department I am trying to contact closes on the weekend and after 4PM weekdays according to the enquiry line yet if I call the 03000 number at 11PM IT IS STILL ENGAGED! The line is being clogged up by those constantly hitting redial

If you are getting into debt then luxuries such as Sky should be revised
I'm sick of this country, I used to be proud to be British, not any more, not for a long time! Leave then

Can you advise how many hrs you work and how much you earn that enables you to get £100pw in WTC?0 -

I also got through on it today. Sadly they won't reinstate my money until I send them half my life in the post!0 -

Considering your posts earlier on here I think that is fairly generous of them. Whilst I understand your frustration your response seems a little OTT, but I hope it gets sorted out soon for you. Maybe you should have replied sooner to the original letter?0
