Can I keep goods which I haven't ordered?

Hello everyone, this is my first post, hope I have done it correctly! A couple of months ago we had some things delivered from a well known department store. This morning I had a phone call and the lady said that our items are being delivered on Thursday..........I was a bit puzzled at first so I asked what they would be delivering and she read out the whole list of what we have already had delivered. I just said "OK Thank you" and left it at that. I rang hubby just to make sure he hasn't ordered anything without telling me, and just as I thought, he hasn't. So what I would like to know is, do I have to send them back? !?!? Appreciate any advice or any stories of this happening to anyone else.
Thank you
Thank you

It depends - if they charge you then you will obviously send them back.
If they deliver and forget about the items for 6 months, then the goods are yours. If they realise their mistake in that time and ask for the goods back then you will have to return them.2008 Club Member: 433

Hi Northernlass,
Found this doing a search :
Mailing unordered merchandise. The Unsolicited Goods Act 1971 makes it a criminal offence to demand payment for goods sent to a consumer without that consumer's prior consent. It also entitles the consumer to treat the goods as if they were his or her own if specified conditions are fulfilled. The Act also lays down preconditions before payment can be legitimately demanded of a person or company in respect of an unsolicited entry for that person or business in a directory.

You live & learn don't you, they have obviously changed the law slightly.
I always used to send a letter / telephone stating that I had received unsolicited goods & invited the sender to collect them at their leisure (within 30 days) or I would dispose of them.
But it now seems as if you are intitled to keep the goods!0 -
me too,I didn't know it had changed from 2001......................thanks RushTony_H wrote:You live & learn don't you, !0 -
OK, Thanks everyone, I'm still confused though as I have confirmed that it is OK to deliver the goods on Thursday, so surely this is not "Unsolicited Goods" as they have notified me and I have said OK?????
I think I'll just store everything and see what happens!0 -
