How to check if seller telling truth over reporting crime or nuisance with neighbours

I wonder if you can help.

Is there any way of checking if there have been any incidents at a property?

I am thinking of the property information page on the legal pack sellers complete.

They are to indicate if there have been any incidents at the property.

Is there a way to find out if an incident has occurred or been reported

I have tried calling both the police and the local council and they both say it is covered under Data Protection and they are not allowed to disclose the information.

So how would I find out if the sellers are telling the truth, or not!

Many thanks

You can go to the police uk site and it will pinpoint if there has been any incidents in the area (although not exact house) crime, anti social behaviour etc

I would be having a discreet word with the neighbours in the area to see if they know of any problems. Also drive by and park up and watch for a given time especially on weekend evening.

Google street name to see if that throws up any problems and include local papers name. It is surprising what can be found out from old newspaper entries

What do you suspect may have happened?
  • Just bought the house and having trouble with someone on a neighbouring street parking in our residents car park.

I mentioned politely that it is residents of our block only who can park here. That we have paid for the parking space within our property price.

He ignored me the first time, the second time of me mentioning it to him he just went crazy at me. Said the person who lived in the house previously had attacked him, and he will park there if he wishes.

There also seems to be a lot of litter hanging about and have seen a fake CCTV camera that I didn't think was there when we viewed the house.

So I was starting to wonder if anything else has been happening and if the previous owners had reported incidents to the council or police, as they stated nothing on their selling report.

So wondering how I would find out

    Thanks

You could hire a private detective to look into this for you. It won't be cheap, but may be the only way to find out the truth.

I moved a couple of years ago so may have it wrong, but doesn't it mention neighbour disputes, they would probably get away with it saying it is not a neighbour!

Get one of these to protect your parking space.

You could always ask the solicitor to raise a specific question phrased in such a way that you get the answer you need. Often the wording on the property is a bit Woolley.

Depending on the answer you will have decide whether or not to buy
