Having once made a shocking mistake - I pulled what I thought was a bag of gooseberries out of the freezer in order to make a gooseberry sponge pud and instead discovered just in the nick of time it was a bag of brussel sprouts!
I now put all my packages into an extra poly bag and pop in a written slip with the item and date written on it. I then seal up the bag! So labels cannot come off and yes I am sad enough to wash my old freezer bags out and reuse them (not if they have had raw meat in tho)Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Hi
I had this problem until i started using foil cartons from asda, i think they are 10 for 90p. I puy the lid upside down so the foil is facing the food and write on the top in normal pen on the white cardboard side, they stack easier and are always readable.0 -
I have to be honest and say that I don't label at all. I organise by tray, like many others, but after that I leave it to 'lucky dip'. I know which draw my main courses are in and so when I need one, in pops my hand, and out pops something. Sometimes I can be fun having a little bit of mystery in your life...or dinner anyway.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, some good ideas to try out there. I had thought about using the foil trays Caz but then I usually defrost/re-heat in my microwave, hence using freezer bags instead. The tags sound feasible and I'm sure I've seen some very cheap in Lakeland so next time I place an order for yeast I'll try some of those.
I think the soup I had might have been potato & leek, although it didn't taste very leeky and I vaguely remember making something similar a while back but can't for the life in me think what it was LOL! Oh well, it tasted good and has made a bit more space in my freezer"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

We often have freezer surprise as well:rotfl: and I often serve up cooked MEAT hoping no-one asks me to be more specific
I used to buy tinned stuff from a discount warehouse. Only prob was that the labels were often falling off or gone so tined goods roulette was frequent at chez MATH'S. Good job sliced peaches and chopped tomatoes are interchangable in all recipes I know of:eek:Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -

I never know what to call my soup anyway. It's usually just whatever I can find lurking in the fridge. I just invent a name if DH asks.0

I label everything and have a permanent pen hidden down the side of the cutlery drawer so nobody can pinch it!
The labels I've got are shiney ones. They are on a big roll and used in industry to go through label printers for packaging. They don't come off in the freezer, but still peel off easily to remove them. I don't know where you would buy them though as I errrrmmm aquired mine :AHere I go again on my own....0 -
