Can anyone tell me how many points are needed to get put in the Support Group and do you have a guide to how many points are awarded for each answer.
I am sure I should be able to find it,but can't and am really stressed at the moment.

Got my phone call on Tuesday to say they are sending me the ESA Forms, but weren't too helpful when i started asking lots of questions.
Since then I have been trying to collate information and fill in the on line form.
I have 2 medical/legal documents prepared for Court after a car accident . Case never went to Court, but they have extremely detailed medical history.
But the way some of the questions are worded it seems very hard to say the right thing.

It's not a case of getting the required number of points to get into the Support Group it's a case of satisfying one of the Support Group descriptors. The SG descriptors are those which attract the 15 points.

Take this little test to see if you would satisfy one of the SG descriptors. Here

The support group descriptors are not always identical to the comparable 15 point descriptor. (And for some 15 point descriptors there is no support group equivalent)

In addition, meeting a 15 point descriptor with respect to work, does not mean that you would meet the same identically written descriptor with relation to work-related-activity (which is needed to get into the support group).

The support group descriptor is looked at with respect of your abilities to do that descriptor as a part of work-related activity - which is problematic, as this can vary from receiving a phone call once every two years, to being required to work fulltime unpaid.

    Hi Saversue,
Please don't look anymore online, just wait for the form. By all means take a little look at the descriptors if you wish but I didn't. I still don't know how many points etc needed for either group or how they depict on how many points they allocate etc.

I agree there are many questions on the form which ask (if I remember) TRUE/FALSE, YES/NO sort of answers. When I wasn't able to give true/false answers I wrote 'neither' on the form and gave explanation. As you know yeurself many questions aren't agree/disagree answers!

You will get freaked out if you carry on looking for information on 'points' needed and if you get the required magic number! Just approach it honestly, giving all the information you can give which is relevant.

When you get the form just flick through it and leave it. Attempt to complete 2-3 pages a day (in rough) so it isn't daunting.

Do tell your GP - they contacted my GP and asked for a report.

You can add relevant information to the form.

Remember I was placed in WRAG. I requested a copy of 'medical report' they produced and based on that I felt strongly that it was totally wrong and wrote to disagree with their decision. I am now in SUPPORT GROUP.

    DON'T PANIC SUE ;)

The position is I have a permanent High DLA award for both care and mobility - I know this will be reassessed by 2015.

I am also on Incapacity Benefit, since 1998, with an age addition of £6.00 per week.

Today received a letter from jobcentreplus saying I am to be assessed for ESA. Will get a phone call to talk about changes and then a form sent out to complete.

As I get high DLA care and mobility, will I still have to go through this process and if so will I receive the same amount currently £107.35.
Also will I then keep having to be regularly reassessed if they agree I am not fit to work?

Does any one have a link to the forms they send out please?
    Hi Saversue,
I can feel the panic in your posts ... calm down, try not to worry too much. You will still have to go the process even though you are in receipt of DLA - as I am. While they assess you, you will get your incapacity as normal until they reach their decision. Now as I know through your posts over the years your circumstance I would imagine that you will be placed on ESA - don't know if they will place you in WRAG OR SUPPORT GROUP.

It seems that they will be reassessing everyone fairly regularly between 6 months to 3 years, depending on the length of time they decide - this will be in the decision letter.

Although I appealed their decision, they reconsidered and placed me in the Support group without a tribunal. As you know with these matters, if you do decide to appeal there is a chance of having to go to tribunal and this is something you must consider.

As this system is pretty new, we will have to wait and see how long it will be before they reassess everyone and whether they make a decision without filling in endless forms.

Keep smiling Saversue, I know it's hard.;)

Take this little test to see if you would satisfy one of the SG descriptors. Here

The 15 point physical disability descriptors e.g. Mobilising, Seat transference, Reaching, Picking up, Manual dexterity, Making yourself understood, Understanding communication of the 'Assessment of Whether a Claimant has Limited Capability for Work' mirror those of the 'Assessment of whether a claimant has limited capability for work-related activity' descriptors aka the Support Group descriptors.

From the 'Mental, cognitive and intellectual function assessment' descriptors there are far fewer on the Support Group list.

However in general the SG descriptors do follow most of the 15 point descriptors in the 'Assessment of Whether a Claimant has Limited Capability for Work' at least for the Physical Disabilities.

The SG descriptors can be found Here

    and the WRA descriptors Here

    Excellent advice as usual.
I am still waiting for the forms to arrive. But in the meantime have been trying to work through the online ones and attempting to collate all the medical evidence I want to send and have done little else for the past week. Can't believe how much effort it's taking.
I was also considering adding an alternative answer to the ones provided for some questions.

Yes I am panicking - big style, and everything I touch is breaking and needs fixing/replacing.
Fence, Side-Gate, Gutter, Netbook, Electric Shower have all packed in this week.
Had I been able to get my State Pension at 60 as I was always expecting (having more than my 30 years of employment contributions) it wouldn't have been so bad, but now it's 65 for me and going up again; it makes things much harder.
May have been able to muddle through, but not now, so know I will have to appeal, just like yourself.
    ;) There's my smile, it's a bit blue at the moment !

Well I've just taken that little test, tried very hard to be objective and..... scored over 100 points  really look forward to seeing how few they actually give me.

Quite a few people pass themselves at a high score but end up with zero. It's how the assessor believes you fit the descriptors on the day. Just concentrate on filling the forms out as well as you can
