Travel Republic changed booking after payment

Hi can anyone tell me where I stand legally? I booked and paid for accommodation through Travel republic. I booked a 1 bed apartment all inclusive. They have now contacted me to say there was an error on the website as the hotel don't have apartments and don't provide all inclusive. They want to give me a twin basic room, room only board basis for the same cost as I have paid? In order to have a twin room, full board, they want me to pay £550 on top of my original booking, yet admit that the fault it with them, not me?

I have requested that I have full board and a family room for the original price but they have said no, that this will cost them too much, however it is still below what I originally booked and paid for. They have offered me a full refund, however I do not want to cancel the booking as it is an excellent rate, and my flights are confirmed and paid for.

Please help, any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Did you book the accommodation and flights together or separately?

Travel Republic are ABTA bonded and ATOL protected. So if you booked flights and accommodation together then you bought a "package". Ergo if they cannot (or will not) fulfil the accommodation aspect you can get a refund on the travel aspect too.

there was a big case a few years ago that found TR were not offering packages under the package travel regulations - which offers the highest level of protection.

ergo you are buying 2 separate items not a package - unless they have changed their views - but why would they as the package law puts more restrictions on them

They did exactly the same to me. Avoid them - they're not worth the stress for a few £'s saving. Go ellsewhere.
