Help me find a hotel in Rome

Hi folks, I'm going a bit doolally looking at search sites etc so I'm hoping someone here can help me find a hotel for a trip to Rome in June. Our criteria are:
I don't put a lot of stock in star ratings (especially in Europe) but I'd want something with decent customer reviews.
We arrive on Wednesday 5th June, staying 4 nights. Budget is up to £300 but I really don't want to go over that.
If anyone can find me a deal I'd be very appreciative!
- Double (or twin) room for 2 adults
- easy to get to/from the main tourist attractions (walking or a direct train/metro)
- close to local shops/restaurants
- private bathroom
- bed and breakfast preferred but not essential

You're best going on Experia, puting your dates in and ordering the results by price. You can also select by area as well. Tripadvisor is also good for reviews.0

erm...as I mentioned, I've been on the search sites - but there are thousands of hotels in Rome and checking them all against the criteria we have is driving me batty. I was hoping that someone would know of a good place and be able to make a recommendation or be up for a challenge and track something down.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Domus Caracalla would suit nicely.
£68 per night, breakfast included and 12 minutes on a very frequent bus from the Colosseum. Cheapest at Venere0 -
Rome is quite a regular ask - I'm guessing you haven't looked for previous recommendations ?

I stayed here a few years back - http://www.the-beehive.com/ - prices have gone up since I was there but it was very conveniently located.0

Look for hotels near Termini station for easy access, although the transport links seem very efficient so you shouldn't have a problem as long as you're near any metro!
I've booked to stay at the Seven Kings Releis for December, the reviews were excellent.0 -
We stayed at the Hotel Nerva on Via Tor de Conti, it really is in the heart of all the things you want to see, Colosseum, Forum, Trevi Fountain, (Vatican City a bit of a walk as is the Circus Maximus but do able) Looking on trip advisor it looks like it has had a bit of a makeover and you would be looking to pay £500-£600 for four nights but you may be able to get a deal from somewhere.0

We stayed at the Duca D'Alba. A few steps from the tube and walking distance from the colosseum and the termini. We were very pleased.
