Bill for gas/ only heating water
Hello,
I just wanted ask you what is <normal> to pay for Gas a month when combi boiler is heating only water. It is just for 2 people, shower everyday maybe 1 bath a week. We do not have dishwasher and washing machine is cold water only.
Thank you:)

You should be able to get away with one or one and a half imperial units per week, that is 30 to 45 kWh. If you have short showers then even less.
So 5 or £7 per month plus standing charge.0 -
And don't forget the cost of electricity for the combi on standby - sounds insane but I try to remember to switch off the power when not actually running water to avoid the gas boiler costing me as much in electricity as for gas!0

Thank you,
We bought house in November and because of cold our bills were around £170 for gas + electricity. Electricity is about £50 a month so we paid £120 for heating + water! It will be great to pay just £7 for Gas! Standing charge is £1.25 per month for both.
Is it ok for combi to be switched off overnight or when at work?Got the house:j/ got mortgage for 25 y:eek:

Who on earth is offering standing charges of only £1.25 per month? That isn't going to last. You are either mistaken or in for a massive increase soon!
I also wouldn't celebrate at the low cost of your gas - you'll still need the heat from somewhere and electricity is not going to be particularly cheap.
As you will be paying lots for your electricity it is probably not worth your while risking your boiler (and pipes) by switching it off.0 -
Am a bit confused by your posts. What fuel source is used for your heating?0
-
I'm a bit confused too, but I think what the OP wants to know is how much their Gas Bill will be over the Summer when the Combi isn't producing household heat, but there again ....... ?0
-
£5pm sounds about right for just heating water (say for 30-45 minutes a day) on a good tariff. A gas hob and/or oven would increase this - I was paying maybe £10pm for a gas hob and hot water throughout last summer.
Standing charges would be the main cost unless you get a no-standing-charge tariff of course.0 -
We are with utility warehouse. I am submiting reading every month and we get bill exactly for we use. Standing charge is only £1.25 a month for both but their charge per units is a little bit higher. Still it is cheapest for us.Got the house:j/ got mortgage for 25 y:eek:

Thanks for posting this. I've had a look at Utility Warehouse and they look good. In my area they offer three tariffs, a low user tariff (no standing charge), a medium user tariff with a £1.40 per month standing charge and a higher usage tariff with a £4.40 per month standing charge. The unit price varies from 4.722p per unit to 4.003 depending on which tariff you choose. This is much fairer than most of the big companies which seem to have gone down the compulsory standing charge route.0 -
Yes, we are low user but in our area we pay £1.25 standing charge. Please be careful their units are a little bit more expensive than average but for us they are cheapest. Also I like to be billed only for what we use in a month. You can submit reading every month online and then you can see your exact bill for a month. It is nice to know how much we are spending. If you will take more utilities with them, it can be even cheaper ( phone, internet, card).Got the house:j/ got mortgage for 25 y:eek:
