Hi

I am having problems trying to use the iespell button (spell check button with ABC at top right hand side of this box) in IE9 (64-bit) Windows 7.

iespell installs and works fine on IE9 and google chrome but when using with IE9 (64-bit) it does install but when I try checking spelling errors it comes up with this message:
Message from Webpage:
Exception raised! Automation server can't create object.

Was wondering if it's me doing something wrong or is this a known problem with iespell when using IE9 (64 bit)?

Chrome has it's own spell checker.

IE10 also has a built in spell checker. Can't you upgrade to that? It runs on Windows 7: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/internet-explorer/downloads/ie-10/worldwide-languages.

ieSpell appears to be abondonware (or perfect). The last update was three years ago.

Yes you are correct there, I did go on the ieSpell website and it has not been updated for a long time.
After posting the question on here I did google the question but was unable to find a fix, other than people saying that it does not work on IE9 (64-bit) Win 7.

I have recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 7, it has 2 versions of IE on it, when using IE9 the ieSpell works fine, it only fails when I use IE9 (64-bit) and comes up with the above error message.

I have only just got used to Windows 7 (XP before which was easy to use, I thought) and IE9 so prefer it if I didnt need to upgrade to IE10, but thanks for the idea.

Will have to remember to open this site in IE9 (normal one, not this 64-bit whatever that means!) so I can continue using the ieSpell button to check my posts.

Just thought someone out there may have found a fix to make it work with IE9 (64-bit). I am not very computer savvy and aint got a clue why it works on normal IE9 but not the 64-bit version.

I very rarely use Internet Explorer. I have IE10 installed on my Windows 8 laptop.

I think the differences between IE9 and IE10 are mainly under the hood, such as the addition of a built-in spell checker. :)

But I know how attached people get to doing things a certain way. My neighbour's son-in-law installed Chrome on her desktop computer a while ago. She'd always used Internet Explorer in the past.

She was completely lost with it, so I made IE the default browser for her again.

My Father switched from IE to Chrome a while ago. I got a worried phone call from him last year: "Google is closing down" he said. I laughed and said that was unlikely. When I visited him I discovered that he was using iGoogle as his home page, and it's this service Google is retiring later this year. :)

    Yep thats me!!!

I won't laugh at your father, bless him he prob knows more than me.
To give you an example I was once using word, typing a letter, god only knows what I pressed but after closing it down, every time I went to use Word it would put some weird signs between the words (it looked like I was reading music). I thought my computer had a virus so I called a friend (who works on computers) to come round and sort it out, he opened up word and had a look and just started cracking up, after a couple of seconds it was working fine.
Turned out I had selected some option that professional typist used to make sure the spaces and what else is correct in the document! :o

I will give it a while and if no fix is available then I will prob end up going over to IE10 esp as you say "I think the differences between IE9 and IE10 are mainly under the hood, such as the addition of a built-in spell checker." so hopefully it should not give me a headache to use.

    Thank you for the information.

Problem with 64bit IE is that all the extensions and plugins people use need to be rebuilt for 64bit. This has been done for the major ones (Flash, Java, Silverlight etc.) but if you are relying on a more obscure one (I've never heard of ieSpell) then you're going to have to check the creator's website and see if a 64bit version is available.

Or just continue to use 32bit IE, it's not going to make much difference.

Neither had I until I started posting on this site and used the button on the right hand side of this box (when writing a post).

Thanks for explaining what the 64-bit was about.
