Best ADSL for Gaming?

Just wondering what ISP's people are using when gaming. I was with Pipex and regularly got pings of 40-50 in Counterstrike Source. I switched to Virgin when it came bundled free with a mobile deal (very good deal for sim only but that's another story), now my pings are regularly in the 200+ in the evenings.
I've tried talking to Virgin about it but the best they could do was turn of interleaving - This reduced my rate from 8MB to 2MB but had no effect on my ping.
It has to be said, I'm tight enough to lose online gaming for a while and keep the BB, web surfing, email and IM are all fine after all, but in a couple of months, I want my gaming back for Halo3!
So, anyone got any experiences on online gaming? If you play CS, what sort of ping are you getting?
Ta
Jeff

You are playing on farely local servers ?
you have all your other background stuff shut down . Torrent engines (azureus ,lime wire etc.)?
I don't know a great deal about lagg on adsl ...So I can't offer much help
BUt wireless doesn't help game playing .I only use it for my laptop now0 -
Enta resellers (UKFSN, ADSL24, etc.) and IDNet have a good rep among gamers. See:

It's adsl, so not cable (sadly), and there's nothing else running in the background.
Whenever I get on a server, things are generally pretty good till I get auto-kicked thanks to the high ping!
<sigh>
Cheers
