Windows XP repair problems!

Hope someone can help!Main PC has fallen over after a trojan/virus did some damage due to download by DD! Have lashed this old piece of kit together to communicate!Swept bugs off system but on reeboot got loads of Bsod's.egusb port.sys & page_fault_in_non_paged _area.Went for a repair using original XP disk where setup copies files, initialize & config followed by saving. It then reboots and XP logo window appears followed by black screen. It then flashes up 'not enough virtual memory' and shuts down. When restarts blue screen appears saying setup is being restarted but the black screen appears and flashes up message ' insufficient resources to complete API' then shuts down and repeats process - I've been through this a number of times! Have tried starting in Safe Mode with and without command prompt and using 'last known good config that system worked'. They each shut down witherror message saying ' not enough virtual memory to complete page quoting'?Is there anyway to stop the setup being restarted? Would attempting a fresh copy instead of repair over write any/all data files?Any help would be really appreciated. Many thanks for any help.

you might need to format and do a fresh install, but you will loose all your data.
hence the need to backup your data regular.
there are 2 types of puter user, those who have had a hdd failure. and those who will have a hdd failure.Get some gorm.0 -
if you fresh install you will lose everything
get the data off you need with a linux boot disk like ubuntu ot Knoppix first, they both have inbuilt cd burning software and load solely from Cd
you need to change the bios boot sequence to get it to boot from CD firstEx forum ambassador

Does hard drive have 2nd partition eg. D ??Lord_Gardener wrote: »Any further ideas?
If it does you can install 2nd Windows XP, boot from that, backup to wherever, to D partition or external drive, CDs etc.

Have managed to get the main PC up and running again! Tried using Ubuntu but couldn't work out how to see the Windows files! Managed to pop HDD into old lash-up PC and copy data files - had most backed up already on dvdrw. Put HDD back into main PC and booted from Windows XP cd. Went for repair then refresh install without formatting or changing file system (NTFS). Was given an 'L' option where you get a fresh installation (removing all applications) but 'may' retain the 'My Documents' folder! Installation went through with no BSOD's. Found data had been retained within the My Documents folder. Have installed AV, anti spam, etc and swept to check all was ok. Have also installed Comodo as an alternative to Zonealarm - the lash-up wouldn't take ZA for some reason! Thanks for all the help. What the currently recommended/best buy for an external HDD - thinking about a further backup by image?I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0

Do a fresh Windows install on a DIFFERENt Hard Drive connected to the computer.
When windows is repaired you can change the jumper on the damaged windows hard drive to SLAVE and plug in where the CD ROM goes.
You can then copy files between the 2 hard drives and reformat for future use.0
