Claiming On PPI

Hello again clever people
I am in a bit of a quandry. My dad sadly passed away 4 weeks ago, and I am dealing with his estate. He had a small life insurance policy which covered the cost of his funeral, and not much else.
He had an account with Barclays, and when I went into the branch to close it, they told me he had a Barclaycard (which I knew) and a loan account (which I didn't know). So any moneys left in his current account would offset his debts. Fair enough.
However, on checking his barclaycard statement he was paying almost £50 PPI! I so wish he had spoken to me about this before, because I could have helped him.
So, today I receive a letter from Barclays advising of the balance of the barclaycard, which has shot up £1300 from the last statement I had, and asking if I have other funds in the account to cover it. Doesn't the PPI cover death? If I google it, all I get is PPI claim info rather than what it covers. I have written back to Barclays today about this, and will be seeing if I can reclaim his PPI posthumously, but if anyone knows about the death cover now, I would be grateful.
