Can partner be left off the tenancy agreement

I am moving into a property with my partner, we are married.
The EA want to charge us per person for reference checks. I can afford the rent on my own and have checked this with a few different rent affordability calculators.
Seeing as I will be solely paying the rent out of my salary anyway and my partner will not, can my partner avoid being on the tenancy and avoid this check therefore avoiding half of the EA fee?
I realise not being on the tenancy agreement would give my partner no rights but this is fine as we are married and have no chance of separating.
Thanks

Very noble, hope it turns out to be true... (he said, on 3rd marriage...).
Should you fall under a 'bus & die your partner could be more easily evicted... (less so in Scotland..)
The agent/landlord will probably want both named on the agreement so that should (I realise this will obviously never happen in your case...) the rent not get paid or there be damage there will be 2 people to sue for the £££ not just one (They don't care who pays as long as someone coughs up..).
The landlord/agent does not HAVE to rent to you on any terms you set: Unfair perhaps but reality...
Best of luck, hope you can work something out...0 -

I knew this would come up, that's why I put it in theretheartfullodger wrote: »Should you fall under a 'bus & die your partner could be more easily evicted
I imagine if I did die my partner wouldn't have anything to live for anyway :P0 -
When my husband and I rented a property he was named on the agreement and I was put down as a permitted occupier.
This saved me having credit reference checks. Plus, since I was retired would not have been able to afford it on my own.
However, as previously said your LL may not be happy about this but you can only ask.0 -

I haven't heard of a permitted occupier before, very interesting.
I can imagine they will say no as it is halving their money.0 -

I'm down as a permitted occupier on the property DH and I live in - at the time we were referenced for here, I was only 15 months' post-bankruptcy-discharge and knew that the report would come back as a "no" so we spoke (openly) to agent about the situation and have the tenancy agreement in DH's name alone. We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

Similar situation, but already living there. My LL has agreed to my wife and stepdaughter moving in and will be visiting next week to sign a letter to that effect. The next step will be deciding what to do at renewal time (which will be about two months after she moves in). I understand where you're coming from, a fee such as £300 is too much. Are you able to contact the LL to see what they will be happy with? Or get the EA to while you're there.0

If the left off partner is male then he has no rights anyway !
His wife will connive to kick him out when it suits her. If i were the left off partner,i would ensure that i wasnt..err..left off.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
My wife was put on the first contract of our current rental as a permitted occupier as the LA advised it as she was in between jobs at the time. When the contract was renewed, they added her to the agreement as a full tenant without a credit check. I won't complain, saved us a few bob on the initial referencing...0
