We have an old gas oven (which still works fine) with a built in grill - whose ignition keeps on clicking continuously even after the grill is lit, (and doesn't stop until it is turned off !)
Anyone have an idea of what's going on?
Is it a DIY job (as it's the ignition) or do I need to get someone in?
Thanks.

First thing to note is that the ignitor spark is generated from a high voltage so be very careful as you could get a shock from touching live parts.
Does the grill ignitor usually come on when you push the temperature setting dial in?If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -
You need to get someone in.
It sounds like faulty flame rectification. NOT a DIY job.0 -

When I switch on the grill, the gas starts coming through and the ignitor starts clicking but I have to light it with a match (it hasn't come on spontaneously for years). I should explain that it's about 20 years old.0 -

The spark electrode most likely needs physically adjusting. Have a look where the spark is occurring in the grill area at the moment.
With the gas and ignitor off, adjust the electrode so that it has an adequate gap to the ground electrode and so that the spark occurs near where the gas enters the grill area. You can see how this works on the gas ring/hobs.
You should use a pair of insulating grip pliers to make the adjustment. Preferably with a VDE rating in the kV range.
The clicking continuing is a separate issue and probably related to the integrated ignitor switch in the temperature setting dial sticking. If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -

The clicking noise the spark being generated so there is zero point faffing with a pair of pliers adjusting the spark gap.
Cheers
I have repaired a grill ignitor where the clicking and spark was present however, the spark electrode was misaligned so the gas did not ignite.
Also, on some models, when your press the temperature control dial to start the ignitor, all the hobs/grill/oven ignitors start clicking! If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0
