Display goes blank

Hi,
Recently I've noticed that when I power up my pc the display comes up then goes completely blank. Pressing any keyboard buttons, mouse etc. has no effect on this. If I power down the display then power up again this cures the problem.
However today I found that every time I powered the screen on again the desktop would appear then the screen would go blank again after a few seconds. This happened repeatedly. After shutting the pc off then powering up again everything was fine. Any ideas please? Thanks.

When a similar thing happened to me I found out that the graphics card had become loose in the slot, just pushed it back in and everything was fine, of course if you use on-board graphics this won't apply to you.I love my spell checker, it stops me making all sorts of stupid smelling mistakes. :doh:0

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
A friend suggested the graphics card also, so I took the side cover off the pc (a Packard Bell imedia tower unit) only to find that there is no separate graphics card. I'm going to test the display with another pc to check that the problem is within the pc and not the screen.
Both the pc and display are still covered by warranty (The pc is 16 months old but I registered it with my credit card company for an extra year foc). My concern is that if it is the pc then I guess it would mean a new motherboard. I'm not sure if the engineer would visit me or if I would have to send the pc to them. And would they fix it or declare it uneconomic?
The big worry would be sending away the pc with hard drive (and all data it contains) and possibly not getting it back again.
Does anyone know what happens in such cases please? Thanks.
