Virus?

A couple of days ago Excel seemed a bit sluggish so I started the Task Manager and saw a folder among the applications. When I clicked on it I found a directory full of someone elses photographs. I ended the task immediately, but neither a full Norton scan nor Norton Power Eraser have found any threats, so I don't know what to do next. The full scan took about 45min, but NPE finished in only about 4min which seems odd. I could run Malwarebytes, but if it comes up with a list of potential threats I don't know how to tell the genuine positives from the false positives in order to avoid deleting something essential.

Run MWB and delete whatever it finds.
Then download and run glary utilities.

Are the pictures part of your web browsing cache?
    Or Are they personal pictures?

    Have you cleaned the cache?

Try using Ccleaner to clean your PC.

Run Malwarebytes, delete everything it comes up with and post the subsequent log on here.
Cleaning with CCleaner is also a good idea.

Also, is the folder you found still on your machine?

Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.

Is Glary a recommended application? (Something's niggling in my mind about it either being useless or causing more problems than it solves. Although a quick Google isn't yielding such results, other than to say it's a toss up between Glary and CCleaner).

I use both Glary and Crapcleaner.
The reason I didn`t mention CC to OP is because it`s more complicated to use than Glary and you could do more harm than good if you don`t know what you`re doing.

With Glary it`s just scan and repair, simple and easy for someone who may not be too sure what`s what.;)
