Clydesdale bank and bank charges

Hi first time poster. Looking for advice

I wrote to clyedsdale bank 2 months ago, using the letter from this site, to see if i could reclaim £75 in fees i have been charged in the last few months. I basically went overdrawn by £7 for a day and was charged £25 and then went overdrawn by a day again a month later to pay an electric bill by DD for about £30 and was charged £50 in fees. I'd asked the energy company to change the DD date two weeks before it was due but it took them a month to get around to doing it which was to late.

My position is i have been on a debt managment program with the CAB since last year, they adviced me to go bankrupt but instead they have managed to arrange something with my creditors to pay a nominal amount each month until i find work. I am currently on JSA and have £43 to pay for food for the rest of the month so £75 is a lot of money for me right now.

The bank replied to me today and to quote

"As a bank we have a duty to treat customers experiencing financial hardship positively and sympathetically"

they then went on to advice me they would not refund a penny and i should contact the CAB.

I am wondering if it is worth sending my complaint to the ombusdman and what it would involve ?

any help would be appreciated, thanks :)

With bank charges, it cannot force the bank to repay anything. All it can do is make sure they have at least considered your request fairly.

What was the basis of your refund request? You are on a debt management program but are you living within your means now? Do you have any priority debts? (e.g. council tax, utilities etc).
Does your current account statement show any luxury items such as mobile phone bills, satellite/cable tv, restaurants etc?

This page explains how you would go about complaining to the FOS
    http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm

But what would you complain to them about?

I would advise you take up the suggestion provided by the bank and go and have a chat with the CAB first. They will be able to help you not only with managing your financial position better, but also whether there are any grounds to make a complaint to anyone :)
