Hi, I'm just wondering if it's possible to take a song and the instrumental version of the same song and make a track that has some bits of the original song and then some bits of the instrumental? My daughter is doing a song and dance routine in a dance competition and ideally I wanted the parts where she sings to be the instrumental version and then the parts where she dances to be the original song with vocals but I have no idea if this is possible and if it is, how to go about doing it. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.x

Yes, if you have both versions any audio editor such as Audacity will let you cut and paste sections into a third track.

Or you could mix it on the fly with some DJ mixing software, don't know if there's any free ones though off the top of my head.

    Hiya
I do this all the time using either audacity or mixcraft. I'm sure you can download both (or at least trial versions) for free which should give you enough use to do what you want.

Yes, you should be able to do it with Audacity.

What form are your source tracks in? Are they on CD?

Audacity is your best bet if you're looking for a free open-source tool.
