I dont know where but a friend who runs a flooring company told me never to put laminate in a bathroom. He said it doesnt matter if it says it is bathroom suitable, after 3 or 4 years you will get problems.
As he told me this when he was doing us a quote I have opted for a good quality lyno.

Laminate in a bathroom IMO is ok as long as all possible precautions are taken......it may not be the best flooring choice, but if fitted properly then it will last just aswell as other coverings.
As for waterproof laminate, it is not always the best choice and the job can be done using a better quality laminate and pva or a product called clickseal.
As many bathrooms are not big rooms, the cost of flooring is usually small, but i find the main problem with laminating a bathroom is that you really need to do it from scratch with no fittings present.......I think it can look 'tacky' having to cut around the loo/basin and silicone the expansion gap, so much better to remove (although this can have other problems with pipework etc) or as said start with a blank canvass.
I have laminated many bathrooms over the years and all seem to be going strong still !0 -

I have standard industial grade laminate in some of our bathrooms. It has to be well fitted and the boards have to be tight up against each other. The edges need to be sealed with silicone (under the shower tray etc) and so long as you do not leave huge amounts of standing water on it you should have no major problems.
The suppliers I purchased off said that the "bathroom suitable" laminate is no different really - just cheaper quality with a higher price tag.
Mine has been in for 2 years and there are no signs of any water issues at all. The trick does seem to be to have a good quality laminate whichi s well fitted tho....
