Citibank platinum card (martins tips)

This card advertised as 1% cashback on purchases, I applied on-line and got an e-mail acceptance. On receipt of the paperwork it was related to their credit card which I returned, however on receipt of the PIN/credit card they have issued a 'classic' card which does not have the same 8 weeks credit etc. I do not want to activate the card - because it isn't what I applied for. If I use 0800 for non customers, they say they can't talk about it because they don't have information on credit cards (?) and want me to phone a premium No (used it once, I held for 4 mins for an operator before hanging up and which I am resisting using it again.

Tried to contact them through secure e-mail on their site but they want a telephone PIN which is not the PIN they have sent. Nowhere on their site does it tell you how to get one, nor in their documentation. Very frustrating. Does anyone have any idea how I can clarify this without using their premium No ?

How about not calling their premium rate number? Go to Say No to 0870, type in Citibank and it will give you a choice of cheap or even free phone numbers to call.

I had a similar issue with the Citibank Platinum card. When they sent out the T&C there was no mention of 1% cash back. I did telephone them (which i have usually found not a great service) and the operator told me i would get 1% cash back. Not convinced and not wanting to sign the T&C I sent a copy of the T&C back in the envelope they enclosed, with a note saying there was no mention of the 1% cash bach. I then got an email from them saying that the Platinum offers 1% cash back.

I have an email address you could try: Customer Service, UK [ukcservice@citigroup.com]

    Good luck.
