Best value fuel station reward card??

As this is a money save site, i was just wondering what is the best value rewards card for when you go to the fuel station (i stopped short of saying petrol station for all those who'll point out you get diesel there too).

I've got a Nectar card for BP, a Shell card for there & a Texaco card for there too.

Around here, Shell would be about 1.34.9, Texaco 1.35.9 & BP about 1.37.9 i think.

I know with Nectar you just earn a few points which i think isn't worth much unless you're earning triple points or something.

I get money off at Shell every so often & with Texaco i got some vouchers.

Not sure how they stack up against each other though.

I was just going to post something like this to as at the moment we are using tesco credit card to purchase fuel about (500) pounds odds and get points ect and pay it off in full every month. I am sure there is a better card/fuel card with better rewards than tesco clubcard points. Hope somebody more knowledgeable comes along and points us in the right direction :)

I asked something similar a while ago and most people came back with either Tesco or Morrisons. As I live close to a Tesco and they are all over the place I tend to try to always fill up there. Although they have been a bit cheeky and only offer 1 point for every £2 spend on fuel! However once combined with the weekly shop the rewards a quite good for days out etc. Infact I've just got a £16 karcher attachment free of charge through points which were about to expire.

It also depends what type of Tesco's station it is. If it is a standalone one (ie not on a supermarket grounds) then often there is no points for fuel only for other purchases made in the station shop
  • We have Asda and Tesco next to each other. The automated ASda pumps are invariably 1p litre cheaper than the Tesco pumps for the same fuel. I think there are often bigger savings to be had shopping for the cheapest fuel than loyalty schemes. Within the small town where I live there can be £2+ difference in the cost of a tank of fuel.

I also use a cashback credit card for all my fuel purchases.

Going to try & nip this one before it doesn't help me at all :)

First off, we don't have a Tesco, so that's of no use to me anyway.

Sainsbury's is too far to travel to & any saving you would've made would get burnt up just by getting there.

Asda is a bit closer, but again it's still quite far out for me.

This is all aside from the fact that i wont fuel up at a supermarket station anyway, even if they were within reasonable distance - for one i had my card cloned at one, but more importantly for #2 - i've ran my car off supermarket fuel for a period of time in the past & found that it ran terribly. Got back on to the Shell juice & it was fine again.

So really i'm just comparing Shell vs BP vs Texaco.

You want to get a Santander 123 credit card, which on fuel alone would earn you £7 per month (3% of the max. £300 per month, less the £2 per month fee). That's way better than the return on the Tesco credit card (which is currently earning you 125 points per month, or £1.25, which even tripled is poor by comparison).

Edit: I note you said 'we' in your post. If both you and your partner got a 123 each and split your £500 per month fuel spend between the two you could get more cashback: £5.50 per month on each card. I don't think there is anything in the Santander terms that would prevent this, but please do check for yourself before getting a second card.

At those prices, go for Shell.

    Checking quickly I think:
Shell drivers club gives you 0.5 p/L.
Texaco Star Reward gives you 1p/L.
    BP (Nectar) gives 0.5 p/L.

I get a double Whammy, we have a petrol station that belongs to the Coop, I pay with my Coop Cash back CC and get my coop points too.
    Brilliant.

I do go to Morrisons sometimes and get it there with their Morrison Miles card.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
