Things to do in and around Brixham

Hi,

We're going to Brixham for a long weekend in a couple of weeks and looking for some ideas of places to go, what to do, cheap/free ideas please!
we've 2 boys, aged 7 & 8.

Any good beaches that way?
Best fish & chip shop for our Saturday tea treat?
is the Golden Hind replica ship any good?

Many thanks,

There is also an outdoor swimming pool on the rocks but I think it may be a bit cold for that.

We enjoyed going to Cockington Forge, near Torquay. Lovely little village with thatched houses and a couple of tea rooms and a nice pub. You can walk up through a park to a craft centre and behind the craft centre there's a small park and some horses.

If the weather is nice, there's an open air seawater pool in Brixham. It's free.

Some of the ferry operators on the harbour run ferries to Torquay (Last year this was £1 each way) and daytrips to Dartmouth and other places.

Fairly expensive but a really good day out is Paignton Zoo.

Couple of National Trust proprties nearby if you have a pass. Greenways was nice.

Dartmouth is a nice town. You can take a passenger ferry to the castle and walk back. That's quite cheap and fun.

You can see the steam trains pass on the way from Paignton to Dartmouth at various points along the road. Goodrington sands may be a good place to see them pass plus there's a nice beach and a seashore centre.

Golden Hinde - I remember going on this as a child. It's ok but for the price it doesn't take long. Look at the tripadvisor reviews to decide.

Brixham is a lovely place, staying with Park holidays? We did last September.
Lovely cliff top walks with sea views.
The break water beach ( I think it is called is good for a few hours. The pier that juts out is 3/4 mile long. Take your fishing rod and go fishing/crabbing.

In Brixham there is a harbour with many boats. You can book boat trips.

The Golden Hind for 4 people could be quite costly and can be looked around in 5 minutes. It is not that big.

Trago mills is worth looking up if you are in the area with a car.

We spent an afternoon in the next town of Paignton along the sea front and pier. There is a big green if you wanted to take a frisbee or ball. Crazy golf and slot machines near by.

We visited Canington falls another afternoon. Lots of woodland walks and ponds. That suited us as it takes dogs on leads. We took a picnic/newspapers.

    Have a nice trip.
