Travel Insurance - what is not covered

Travel Insurance recently booked cheap
flights to Rome but flights cancelled due to the death of the Pope. Because
this was not a package the insurance will not pay out - any advice here please?

You need to check the small print of your policy.

I think if it was a package you would have been covered under ABTA rules anyway.

I can't believe a travel insurance policy with cancellation cover can exclude a claim because it wasn't a 'package' - sounds like the insurance company are trying it on or you have a bad policy worth complaining about if it was sold to you when you booked the flight but now doesn't cover you.

I find it strange that you would not be covered in these circumstances. Did you attempt to get alternative flights or did you just declare defeat?

Who is the insurance with?
Also as Debt_Free_Chick asks, did you cancel the flights or did the airline/travel agent etc.?

If the airline cancelled the flights you should be covered with the new EU legislation on compensation from airlines.
