Yesterday I had my new Virgin Media BB and Phone Installed. I now have a "Home 250" Modem and cables!!
I have in my loft somewhere a Belkin F5D6130 Wireless Access Point - If I connect this to the Cable Modem with a patch lead is this likely to give me wireless connectivity?
As an aside, the install was quick and painless the BB is 2 meg and the phone is XL all for £20 pm. (Free Upgrade for the phone) My last BT bill was for£112 and the total cost of all calls was £2.12  The rest was line rental and BB (Which is !!!!!! here and often down to Dial Up speeds) Glad to away from BT.
TIA

Yes, try connecting it, although it's meant to plug into a router, and it's 802.11b spec
Have a look here for support and updates

Thanks so far.
I have to get into the loft and go through lots of boxes called "Old Computer Stuff" anyone else got those too?The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0 -
Attatching a wireless access point to the modem will indeed give you wireless access. Although, it will only be for one computer. If you want more computers to be able to connect, you will need to use a wireless router as opposed to a wireless access point.0

Sorry but I don't think that it will give you wireless access, as the access point needs to be connected to a router and not a modem to act as a DHCP server. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Good point Expresso, it never occurred to me that it wouldn't be able to dish out any addresses.
However!! Having just RTFM is does have a DHCP server and can support up to 64 "clients" (quite how that would work on an 802.11b machine though) I think it might just be worth a try after all - Nothing ventured nothing gained.
Thanks for everyones help. The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0 -
