'Will an MP3 player with high-speed USB 2.0 interface' be compatible with my laptop which has USB 1.1? Or do I need to look for an MP3 player for USB 1.1 only?

It should be backwards compatible, you may just get some warnings that it isn't performing at it's fastest. No point looking for a USB 1 device (if they even make any anymore)."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
