Delay with new build flat

Afternoon all,

Wondering if anyone can offer any advise...

We are buying a new build property, and are currently waiting on a completion date. Upon reserving our new flat last November, we were given April as the month of completion. This is started on our reservation statement.

We exchanged contracts back in February, and on the day we completed on our sale - the builders for our new place suddenly gave us May 30th as a anticipated completion date. Clearly, we could not delay our sale, so we had to move out. Since the end of February we have been living with friends, and all our stuff is in storage.

We have now been told that the anticated completion is in June.

The builders have offered no explanation for the delays. The building is complete, roof on etc - it is just taking alot longer than first thought.

I am certain that our contract is riddled with disclaimers with regards to delays - but surely we should have been better informed as to what was causing and continues to cause the delays.

I know this is a risk with buying a new build, but has anyone had a similar experience? If so, have you been able to pursue the costs or received any form of good will gesture from the builders?

Any help or advise would be appreciated.....

Did your solicitor put a completion deadline in your contract before he exchanged?
