Book a small car and join the back of the hire queue. They soon run out of small cars and then you get a bigger one FOC.

Yup, agree with that. I nearly always do this when arriving on a friday / weekend. But arriving on a wednesday forced my arm.

Still, 142 quid for wednesday to monday was a decent price, IMO

I remember a wedding a few years back in Malta. As petrolheads we found an offer through Budget for a BMW 320 for about £100 for 3 days rental. We rang them locally and they confirmed that BMW 320's were available.

When we arrived I got a 1.6 Opel Kadett Saloon :D, my friend got a Toyota Hiace Minibus :D:D and my other friend got.... a 15 year old Volvo 760 GLE that had no functioning rear lights :D:D:D, so at night he had to be in the middle of the convoy. To be fair they only charged us for the lowest group cars, the minibus came in handy in the evenings when we went out on the lash.

The laughter and ridicule I got when I was handed over the Opel was funny, the handover of the minibus was even funnier and we were crying when the agent handed over the Volvo to my friend. Even better was when the agent coloured in the whole car pictogram for dents and scratches! :rotfl:
