Although it's one of Martin's "The word pedants’ top 10", I was surprised that he said: "This one doesn’t bug me,...." [indeed, I was shaking my head in disbelief].
IMO, "should off" is just absolutely nonsensical combination while "should have" makes perfect sense.0 -
I have started coming across young adults now who actually say "should of". The education system in this country is obviously shot to pieces.
The education system is just slow to adapt to increasing technology use that does not care about spelling and grammar. If exposure to online language is greater than school texts, you will not distinguish between "there", "they're" and "their" for example because online they fulfil the same purpose. The system needs to adapt to combat poor language use online, and just hasn't done so quickly enough.0 -
There is too the inevitability that language will, as it always has, evolve and slowly change over time. Not that it makes any excuses for poor spelling and grammar now though. Perhaps text speak will have an influence over the decades to come, whether that is a good or bad thing is a whole new topic though.'We don't need to be smarter than the rest; we need to be more disciplined than the rest.' - WB0

I reckon the problem has been with us long before technology became prevalent in everyone's life.
This afternoon, the wife of my hairdresser told me she "should of" mentioned to me earlier that I am invited to her 40th birthday party this weekend.
She must have left school a good 20 years ago, when not many people had even heard of PCs and mobiles, and the only use computers had in school was to administer timetables, school dinners and the school's finances.0 -
Reminds me of the quote "when people say plz because it's shorter than please, I say no because it's shorter than yes."'We don't need to be smarter than the rest; we need to be more disciplined than the rest.' - WB0

Nothing more (and alot less!) than many on here have been doing for years
The whole of MSE is an affiliate site in terms of links and revenue generation. Cleverly done i may add. I'd have a guess that the figure runs into the hundreds of thousands a year for the owners.
If you don't like just don't click the links and just go to the sites direct.0 -
Whilst i appreciate some have nothing better to do with their time than spend time opening accounts, switching, keeping track of move account dates and tracking interest rates, to be honest i couldn't be arsed!0

You would be absolutely amazed what you can do with your time when you have lots of accounts and if you keep managing them properly. Shame you won't ever find out yourself but each to their own.0 -

That makes you a LOSER !
Losing out on easy money for a few minutes work :rotfl:
As for the thread itself, what a non-story this is. The people who read this forums are in the main savvy enough to know what to do.
Externally people may not be which is what I think you're trying to get at? So would it not be better to do it externally ie.The TV show?
Where, I wonder does this news feature go externally ?
Probably would hit a larger audience if the person used as an example was someone who really knew the in and outs of how to play the system.0
