Estate agent admin fees

Found a property I want to move into. Negotiated a rental price with the owner and estate agent has just asked me for £480 admin fee

I asked for a breakdown and it is £120 fees per person = £240 Plus £120 moving in charge per person.

Why is there a moving in charge? are they going to help us carry our furniture? Why is the moving in charge per person? it only takes one of us to collect the keys.

Was being sarcastic... I assume moving in fee is just another way for them to charge more money, especially seeing as it is charged per person.

I realise EAs have to make money, but £480 is almost a months rent. It is bordering on the ridiculous.

Renting is really expensive. I had to rent for 6 months and i think it basically cost me about £300 in fees - they charged me something like £100 to do a credit check...baring in mind what i do for a living, i know it doesnt cost that much to do a credit check!

Better still they said i failed it! But then got a mortgage agreement 5 months later???

£200 was for them basically sending me a contract and allowing me to pick up the keys. All in all maybe 3 hours work at most. No doubt they charged the landlord for listing the property also.

Its the business to get into!
