Outlook 33,324k
Word 27,860k
svchost 17,928k
explorer 17,144k (no Windows Explorer window open)
sqlservr 14,844k
mis 12,536k
CCAPP 10,156k
All others below 10k
Physical memory available 172,880k out of a total of 523,340k
I do have 4 IE windows open. Word is not open, but seems to run as part of Outlook, for editing messages, I guess. Opening Word increases Word's memory usage, marginally, to 28,616k

That looks about right.
You don't have a huge amount of memory free, although Windows should extend the size of the swap file should you require more.
It may be worth you buying another 256mb memory module. It shouldn't cost you more than £15-20. This'll stop your machine relying on the swap file as much (which isn't as fast due to being stored on the hard drive)."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
wow, ur Outlook takes lots of memory......maybe your inbox is major full.
Just looked at thunderbirds usage.... 6,880K thats with 3 email acounts and all full of stuff.
Looks like you are running abit slim on memory. Just make sure when you order some you get the right type.0 -
Nope - my PC runs fine. Even on old fashioned dial up. Graphic intensive web pages can take a while to load, but I really don't "feel" as though the PC is underesourced in memory - no freezes, crashes etc ... but then I'm a boring old careful userWarning ..... 110 messages. Folder size reported by Outlook to be 5,386k. Outlook is mega resource hungry, in my experience. Just starting the thing up with nothing in the Inbox requires major juice!
BTW ... I am not complaining about memory. I just posted to illustrate the fact that IE, Outlook & Word can hog resourcesWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Outlook is a funny one. It did initially catch my eye though. At work, my Outlook uses 5,000K and it's quite full, yet WINWORD.exe (I don't have Word open but I assume it's due to Outlook as it's set as the default editor) uses up 32,000K."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0

Fit a gig.
You can never have too much memory.0 -
Does you computer use the memory for graphics too. As some manufacters cut corners and use onboard memory for graphics. Its best to have a seperate card for graphics whihc uses its own fastre memory.
No longer a user, goodbye folks. PLEASE delete my account. Thank you0 -
You can actually. Its been known in the past that M$ os can run slow if too mhc memory is installed. Also some boards may not take 1 gb or have to remove the old ram to replace it with new.
BTW my outlook express takes 11mbVH wrote:Fit a gig.

Only Windows ME and Earlier. Their sweet spot was 384MB, but would handle 512MB with only minor slowdown. Windows XP will take up to 4 gigs, but the average user won't notice a benefit after 512MB. The upcoming Windows XP 64bit edition will handle some ridiculous number, I can't remember offhand but it's in the terabytes I think.
Only old mobos should have trouble handling a gig of memory (By old I mean >3 years), mine's nearly a year old now and will handle 3GB with ease (currently running 1GB).Beware The Look, in all It's forms.0
