Backing up photos and video to ps3- Help!

I have 15 GB of photos and video I need to back up before restoring my PC with disc recovery (I'll ask about that shortly) Don't know what the best way would be to maybe transfer them over to my PS3 and then send them back again? Can anyone advise?
The other thing is, if I transfer them over and then back later will it matter if the PS3 can not read certain file formats? (not bothered if it can't so long as it doesn't lose them.
I tried compressing a folder of a few but the properties suggested for that folder they only looked slightly smaller (47mb to 46mb)
Please keep as simple as possible because I really have no idea when it comes to tech issues.

The only way to do this is to enable your PC to share media in Windows 'Media Player'. Make sure that your PC and PS3 are wired into the same router. Enable your ps3 to search for Shared media PC. Your PC must grant access to this "unidentified device". Grant it and you will be able to transfer music, photos and videos from your PC to PS3.It's only rock 'n' roll, but I like it.0

If you've got a fast Internet connection, you could upload them to a service like DropBox - this will also give you a backup if anything bad happens in the future. Whilst the default DropBox size might be inadequate to upload all of your images, a quick Google search of "increase dropbox storage" will help you out!0

I make ricardus right there. My dropbox account is 50GB and only cost me a few dollars. Or you could use Googles cloud service.0

Buy an external hard disk. Transfer your files to that. It will be easier and you can use it for future backups.0
