That site provides extremely broad brush-strokes. If I enter my own post-code it shows quite a high crime-rate compared to nationally but there's little to no crime in my immediate area.
Actually knowing a neighbourhood is much more valuable information0 -
Mine usually reads
"0 incidents of crime were reported within half a mile from this location ......"
Doesn't mean they know what's going on, mind! :rotfl:0 -
My best tip is: buy a day-rider style of bus ticket and spend 3-4 hours bus hopping on the area. You can IMMEDIATELY see where you don't want to live just by where the undesirables get off the bus0

or even simpler the fact that
area A has a bus service which goes to the council estate whereas
area B gets 2 buses per day on the basis it is affluent and no one uses them because they each drive big cars and have no need to mix with the hoi poli on buses0 -
I looked at the road I want to move to and not a single crime of any kind reported in March 2013
There's a police station with three police officers to cover a town of 5000 people though.
