Laptop has windows 8 and although the wireless printer is showing in the control panel, the option to set as default is not on the list.
I tried to add printer but installation failed.
any ideas?
Please keep it simple as I am not very tech savvy

Make and model of your printer? What options do you get if you right click on the printer?
Have you installed the W8 drivers for this printer-I'm assuming it's a new laptop and an existing printer? No free lunch, and no free laptop

I had the same problem when I first installed windows 8. The problem seems to be the generic printer driver that windows 8 installs on setup. There are know comparability issues with the driver. In the end, I had to download the driver for my particular printer (Canon) from the manufacturers website. I then deleted the printer from windows 8 and re-installed it using my downloaded driver software. All works a treat now.
Good luck.It's only rock 'n' roll, but I like it.0 -
All done. Big thank you to you all for your help.0
